In short

  • This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics, advertising or third-party scripts.
  • The Search software sends Avant no documents, queries or other customer data. Its periodic license check shows us a license ID, a public IP address and the software version.
  • Web server logs, including license checks, are kept for 180 days and then deleted automatically.
  • We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

1. Who we are

This notice explains how Avant Technologies LLC (“Avant”, “we” or “us”) handles information in connection with the website search.avanttechnologiesllc.com (the “Site”) and the license checks made by the Search software. Questions and requests: info@avanttechnologiesllc.com.

This notice does not cover data that customers store in Search. That data stays in the customer’s own AWS account; Avant does not host, receive or access it (see Section 8 of the License Terms).

2. What we collect and why

2.1 Website visits. The Site is static and served through Amazon CloudFront. When you visit it, our content delivery network records standard request information in access logs: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page, your browser’s user-agent string, the response status and bytes transferred, and the edge location that served you. We use these logs to operate and secure the Site, diagnose problems and understand aggregate traffic.

2.2 No cookies or trackers. The Site sets no cookies, uses no browser storage, and loads no analytics, advertising, social-media or other third-party scripts, fonts or images. The Site has no forms or accounts.

2.3 License checks. An installation of Search that uses a license key periodically downloads a signed revocation list from https://search.avanttechnologiesllc.com/license/v1/revocations.json (every 6 hours by default, and at startup). Each request includes:

  • the license ID, as a URL parameter;
  • the Search software version, in the user-agent header; and
  • the installation’s public IP address and standard request metadata (date and time, requested URL, response status, bytes transferred and edge location), as for any web request.

The request contains no documents, queries, index names, mappings, credentials, usage metrics or other customer data. We use this information to administer licenses (including detecting use beyond the licensed installations), to support customers, to secure our infrastructure and to count active installations. A license ID is linked in our private license records to the customer organization it was issued to. Installations running without a license key, such as the local pilot, make no license checks.

2.4 Release downloads. Installing or upgrading Search through our AWS CloudFormation template downloads the release from the Site. These requests are logged like any other Site request (Section 2.1), including the requested release version.

2.5 Email. If you email us, we receive your email address, name, and whatever you include in your message, such as company details for a pilot request. We use it to reply, to provide pilots, licenses and support, and to manage our business relationship with you. Mailto links on the Site open your own email program; the Site itself collects nothing.

2.6 Licensing and billing records. For customers, we keep the business contact, order and license information needed to issue license keys, invoice and keep records.

3. Legal bases

Where data-protection laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site, administering licenses and responding to enquiries, and on performance of a contract where you are a customer or asking to become one. We process records we must keep, such as invoices, to comply with legal obligations.

4. Retention

  • Site and license-check logs: 180 days, then deleted automatically.
  • Email: for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and our business relationship, then deleted unless we must keep it.
  • License and billing records: for the license term and as long afterward as needed for legal, tax and accounting purposes and to resolve disputes.

5. Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only with:

  • Service providers that host our infrastructure and email, such as Amazon Web Services, which process it on our behalf;
  • Professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants, under confidentiality;
  • Authorities, when required by law or to protect our rights, users or the public; and
  • A successor in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this notice.

6. Where information is processed

Our infrastructure runs in AWS’s US East (N. Virginia) region, and CloudFront may serve requests from edge locations worldwide. If you are outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

7. Security

Access logs and license records are kept in private, encrypted storage in our AWS account, with access limited to the people who need it.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a data-protection authority. To make a request, email info@avanttechnologiesllc.com. We may need to verify your request, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Because access logs are keyed by IP address and time, we may not be able to link a log entry to you, and logs are deleted after 180 days in any case. Customers who prefer that their installation not contact us can block outbound access to the revocation list; the software then continues for the offline grace period (14 days by default) before becoming read-only, as described in Licensing and revocation.

9. Children

The Site and Search are intended for businesses and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Changes

We will post any changes to this notice on this page with a new “last updated” date, and we will give customers notice of material changes by email.
